I’m fascinated by evolution. I find it amazing that all of the animals, plants and even bacteria on the planet are related to each other and trying to work out how is great. I think the oceans are an amazing place too, every deep ocean expedition finds weird and wonderful creatures that look like their from outer space!

the thing that entertains me most in my work is the amazing-ness of how a single cell can divide and grow to give a whole fully functioning human being!
If we are talking about outside work, then I love all sorts of topics, I love music and dancing and I go to a drama class where we are putting on a play in a few months time! I also love reading.

I’ve always found human bodies and how they go wrong (diseases) fascinating so I’d have to say biology. I love to find out things about how we work, and how we fit in with other living organisms – what our similarities are, what our differences are etc, I really enjoying seeing how the topics I learn about affect me and my life!

I think I’m interested in just about everything from other areas of science, to all other subjects. For entertainment outside science I love listening to music and going to gigs, and reading novels.

Which topic? For me it has to be programming languages. There are thousands of different ones, and it’s a bit like human languages — you can say the same things in any different language, but you have to say them differently in each one. So, the same ideas get written down in different ways. Interestingly, the language you choose to program in changes the way you think about solving problems a lot. Some languages make it easy to write certain applications (like websites, or games) and some make it easier to write other ones.

People who can speak lots of languages say the same thing, that they think about things differently in their second language. I think that’s really fascinating.
