I think the invention that has had the biggest impact on all our lives in recent times is the internet, we rely on it for so much of our communication, work and recreation. But it wouldn’t have been possible without all the other related inventions before it. That’s a great thing about science, you’re always building on what has gone before.

I think it’s probably the computer. I use them all the time, and I think they’re amazing. They help enormously with my research and they’re fun to play games / use the internet on too.

hmmm, so many to choose from!!! I think I will go for the internet, as you can find out so much at the click of a button! What about you, what would you choose?

The sensible answer would be the wheel – our society wouldn’t exist without it….

I personally love the microwave though – it makes my life much easier…

I guess I’m biased, but it’s got to be the computer. There are so many things that are difficult if not impossible to do without using computers somewhere and now they take part in almost all aspects of modern life, from making tin cans of baked beans to helping physicists understand the data that gets sent back from Hubble, to small robots that help surgeons perform complicated operations.
