Beetroot juice can be used as a pH indicator (it’s shows how acidic something is). So if you add a little to egg white it turns it green (it’s an alkaline, i.e. not acidic). Green fried eggs is a fun breakfast!

well, you can make DNA out of frozen peas and the household equiment that you need are a potato masher, some coffee filters, some washing up liquid and some alcohol! Things that most households have!

I’m not sure it technically counts as an experiment but I personally would go for making popcorn. I know its more cooking than experiment but to be honest, cooking is just like doing experiments – you follow a list of instructions and get something cool at the end. Except in cooking you get to eat it, which is even better than basic experiments! So with making popcorn, you have to heat the oil to the right temperature for the right length of time to get the popcorn to pop. And why does the popcorn pop? Because the kernels heat up to a certain temperature and pressure which makes the kernals split from their shell and make popcorn – that’s the technical experimenty bit whilst the fun bit is that you get to eat it afterwards. Yum yum!!!
