It is really difficult to predict the course of evolution because it comes about from random changes in animals genes. But we do know from fossils that lots of the same kinds of animals keep coming up again and again because they are always faced with the same problems to overcome. Fossils can also help to show us what kind of animals are worse affected by changes the planet undergoes, so we can try to predict which of today’s animals are at risk from climate change.
