I’ve been a scientist since university (so about 8 years now) but I’ve always been interested in science – I started reading books about evolution and genetics and watching TV programs with David Attenborough and Robert Winston on them when I was about 13 and loved it…
Hi amelia and thanks for your question. I’ve been interested in scince since i was about 5 and I have been an actual scientist for about 12 years now! That makes me feel really old!!!
I’ve been interested in science for as long as I can remember. So I suppose that means I’ve been a scientist as long as I can remember. It was when I chose my GCSE subjects that I made the first conscious decision that steered me towards a career path in science, though of course I still studied non-science subjects too. I chose to study science at university – I did two degrees (like most people who want to go into research) and then got my first proper job as a scientist when I had left university at that somewhat old age of 25!
I guess I was always very curious about the world, when I was a kid I used to take my toys apart to see how they worked (then usually I couldn’t fit them back together, so I guess that’s why I never became an engineer!). I started thinking seriously about a career in science when I was a teenager, maths, physics and chemistry were my favourite subjects at school. I liked music and languages too, but generally I was better at science.
