I work in a University in Bristol. I share an office with other PhD students, and sometimes use a lab (a lot like the ones in schools) to get my fossils out of the rock.

I work in a University (the University of Surrey), which is a place where a lot of people come to study after they have left school, and a lot of people work doing research. The research could be all kinds of stuff – not just science, but in history or English, or anything really. It’s a fun place to work, because it is full of people who are interested in finding things out and other who are interested in putting these discoveries to use, and it’s fun for me to find out about all these things. I just listened to a talk earlier today about someone who is trying to use a combination of mathematics and computer science to understand how to identify cancer cells so that he can use a particle accelerator (like the Large Hadron Collider at CERN) to zap the cancer cells. I really enjoy working in this kind of place where there is so much stuff going on.

I work in an office now – it’s based in central london, is open plan, has a lovely kitchen and communal area and is very social. There’s 30 of us in the London office and we have a big meeting room to get together and talk about our research and news about new drugs and we each have a desk with two computer screens…. very impressive!

I work in a big university which is one of the “new” universities that used to be called “polytechnics”. Because we’re a new University we generally concentrate on practical science and our students spend most of their time learning practical skills that they can use in the workplace. Wolverhampton is a big University, we have several “campuses” in Wolverhampton, Telford, Walsall and Cosford and we teach students from all over the world. So, it’s pretty good fun 🙂
